A French director and actor, best known for directing La Haine, Babylon A.D., Assassin(s) and Gothika and for roles in Amelie, Jakob the Liar and Munich.
Born in Paris, he is the most famous of the young and creative French directors, versatile and very active, often serving as editor, director and various identities, known as action filmmakers, not shooting films, not shooting ads, not taking ads and participating in the show. In 1990, his first short film "Flea Ferro" won awards at numerous festivals. In the same year, the second short film "White Nightmare" was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival. "Milk Chocolate" is the first feature film of his director and one of his famous rebel trilogy. The second "Hate" made his reputation at the top and won the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival. The third part is "The Successor". In 2000, the director had a mysterious thriller "Red Chasing Order". During the first week on the French mainland, the audience exceeded one million. It was very popular and also received worldwide acclaim.
Kassovitz took a break from his role as an apprentice behind the camera. He left school at 17 to work as a second assistant director on a feature film, then as a first assistant director for several industrial films. In 1990, he wrote, produced and directed his first short film: Fierrot le pou, followed by two other short films, Cauchemar blanc and Assassins. Métisse, his first feature film, he again directed and wrote, in addition to playing a leading role. He was nominated for two César awards in the category of Best First Work and Best Actor, and won the Best Actor award and a special jury prize at the Paris Festival. He directed, wrote and co-edited his next film, La haine, which won the Best Young Film award at the European Film Awards, as well as two César awards for Best Film and Best Editing. Most importantly, he won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival, which made him known to the international film industry.
