Born on March 4, 1955, in Saumur, France, Dominique Pinon studied literature at the Faculty of Arts in Poitiers. He then moved to Paris and took the Simon course, a drama school. He made his first film appearance in Arthur Joffé's short film La Découverte in 1980.
A versatile and gifted actor, he has an impressive body of work in film, television, and stage. He is also an accomplished voice-over actor. With over 100 films and short films, multiple television roles, and more than 40 stage performances, he has starred alongside notables Maggie Smith, Sigourney Weaver, Winona Ryder, Audrey Tatou, Gaspard Ulliel, and many others. Pinon has the ability to engage an audience and brings to all his roles a relatability that resonates across cultures and genres.
Pinon's first feature-length movie appeared in Jean-Jacques Beineix's classic thriller, Diva, in 1981. He then worked closely with director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, appearing in several of his films, including Delicatessen, Alien: Resurrection, and Amélie. He has worked with numerous world-renowned directors. Pinon has played numerous roles on television in France and Europe. He appeared as fan-favorite "Master Raymond" in the internationally acclaimed series "Outlander".
In 2014, he was named an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters, a title awarded to those who have made a significant contribution to the enrichment of French cultural heritage.
To date, his most commercially successful project is the action film Alien: Resurrection, with a box office revenue of $48,000,000.
"I like working in English, it's like another mask to play with, and of course, I have to work a lot before going on set to be ready to have fun. It requires more work than usual, but I really enjoy playing with this language."
